The Journey That Brought Us Here
House of Peace was founded by Renier Van Der Westhuizen in 2014 when he had almost lost his house. His situation was desperate and he had nowhere to turn. One night, a week before the repossession deadline, he promised God that he would open his doors to those who found themselves in a similar situation if he and his family could avoid the sale of their house at auction for
R150 000.
Two days before the foreclosure deadline, an old army friend contacted Renier and informed him that he wished to donate his biblical ‘tenth’ to Renier to help him pay off his debt thereby saving the house. Thus, it came to pass that Renier could keep his promise to God and fulfill his vision to help others in straitened circumstances.
He named his venture ‘House of Peace’ (HOP) a Community Upliftment, Restoration, Empowerment and Transitional Shelter for those in need. It adheres to family values by creating a safe environment, grounded in a Christian belief system.
